PhD StudentSaikat is working as a Doctoral Researcher in the Software Engineering Lab at the University of Saskatchewan, Canada, under Dr. Chanchal K. Roy. His primary research endeavors are centered on pursuing groundbreaking and highly influential contributions to the field of Software Engineering. He consistently engages with novel, robust, timely, and emerging research problems, simultaneously enhancing research, development, and supervision skills through a commitment to continuous learning, active collaboration, and rigorous self-assessment.
Ajmain Inqiad Alam
PhD StudentAjmain is a Ph.D. student in Computer Science at the University of Saskatchewan, focusing on machine learning and software engineering. He completed his M.Sc. at the same institution, with a thesis titled “Application of Large Language Models in Code Clone: Benchmarking, Evaluation and Detection.” Ajmain earned his B.Sc. in Computer Science and Engineering from BRAC University, Bangladesh, where he co-authored research on IoT-enabled smart bicycle safety systems. Professionally, he has experience as a Machine Learning Engineer in Japan, developing preprocessing programs to reduce data processing time and researching regression-based models and lifelong machine learning techniques using TensorFlow and Keras. His research interests include machine learning, neural networks, and software development.
Palash Ranjan Roy
PhD StudentPalash is a Ph.D. candidate in Computer Science at the University of Saskatchewan, specializing in Software Engineering and Artificial Intelligence. He completed his M.Sc. at USask, where his thesis, “An Exploratory Study on the Roles of LLMs in Code Similarity Detection and Generation,” received the Best M.Sc. Thesis Award from the Department of Computer Science and was nominated for the WAGS Distinguished Master’s Thesis Award.
As the President of the Graduate Students’ Association (GSA), Palash represents all graduate students at USask and serves on the University Senate, Non-Academic Misconduct Committee, University Executive Committee, and Governance Committee.
He has earned multiple international and national awards, including Best Paper, Research Excellence, and Best Presenter awards, recognizing his outstanding research and leadership within the academic community.

PhD StudentSaumendu Roy is a PhD candidate at the Software Research (SR) Lab, University of Saskatchewan. He began his PhD journey in September 2021, focusing on the cutting-edge domain of Explainable Artificial Intelligence (XAI) in software defect prediction. His research focuses on bridging the gap between machine learning model accuracy and interpretability, ensuring practical and actionable insights for developers. Beyond academics, Saumendu has excelled as a leader and collaborator, including serving as former President of the Computer Science Graduate Council (CSGC) at the University of Saskatchewan. He is also deeply involved in community service, volunteering with organizations like the YMCA and leading initiatives in cultural and academic associations.

PhD StudentMala is pursuing Ph.D. in the Software Research Lab within the Department of Computer Science at the University of Saskatchewan. Her research falls within Software Engineering, emphasizing empirical software engineering and software repository mining. She has an M.Sc. and a B.Sc. in Computer Science and Engineering from Jahangirnagar University, received in 2017 and 2016, respectively. Prior to beginning her Ph.D., she held the position of Assistant Professor in the Department of Computer Science and Engineering at Netrokona University, Bangladesh. She has been awarded the esteemed CGPS 75th Anniversary Recruitment Scholarship from the Department of Computer Science at the University of Saskatchewan.
